"Simon froze the bomb mid-flight only inches from the ground"

As the bomb seemed to have ended up in the subway where the liches well of power resides, minus all the skeletons, I guess simon at least succeeded in saving the people there, well at least for a few minutes til the crown killed everyone

Alternate reality where Simon/Ice King freezes the bomb, threw in marceline as well as the shadows of the people running away.

Wait, so, the military came in to bomb and kill Simon, and the bomb itself had supernatural powers to make The Lich. *thinks* Are people aware that those planes could have been terrorists? I mean, the rest of the world wasn't affected by the snow, right? Plus, there was a war going on at the time, so, *gasps* HOLY CRAP! I just figured out how the world was all blown up!

Not exactly. The planes may have already been there to bomb the place anyhow, and Simon just happened to be there. Also, in the Ice King's Past Room, there is a picture of an asteroid headed for Earth, so that may have been what caused it to blow up the part of it that is missing.
